An angle cock serves as a valve that regulates air flow in pipes connecting railway locomotives to each other, as well as to the wagons. The handle of this valve can be lifted and turned 90 degrees.
Angle cocks come in two types: cone core angle cocks and ball core angle cocks. Currently, the ball core angle cock is the most commonly used type in railway vehicles. When we compare it to the cone core angle cock, the ball core version offers better sealing, a larger area for air ventilation, lower air flow resistance, and more versatility. These features greatly assist train inspectors and shunters in managing the opening and closing of train access, as well as safely coupling and uncoupling vehicles. The ball core angle cock uses a ball core along with a rubber seal, making it easy to put together and maintain. This design also reduces the amount of grinding work needed and minimizes leaks. Its self-sealing structure improves sealing as pressure increases. Based on its installation location, the angle cock can be classified as either L type (installed on the left of the coupler) or R type (installed on the right of the coupler).
